AWS CodePipeline: buildspec failing to create build folder for express web server in Typescript – Amazon web services

I’m creating a pipeline for CI, and everything was working well until I tried to automate the build process for typescript transpilation.
I was hoping that adding a build stage and a builspec.yaml file would solve the problem, but it seems to be failing to build based on what I read in the logs.
The recurring error in the logs is:

Error: Cannot find module '/var/app/current/build/index.js'

, which leads me to believe that it’s not creating the build folder.

I checked my tsconfig.json file to make sure that the outDir was set to "build". This is what my tsconfig file looks like.

Would greatly appreciate any help. At the moment, manually building and pushing the folder with the build subdirectory works for my needs, but it would be ideal to be able to push the "raw" source code and have it build automatically in the pipeline.

Update

Note that setting discard-paths to "yes" flattens the output directory. Don’t do this unless you don’t care about file paths (which I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t).
