I have a problem with my Spring web application: it shows Apache Tomcat/4.0.6 – HTTP Status 404 – /spring-mvc-example/ (The requested resource (/spring-mvc-example/) is not available.) I’m going crazy with this error and I don’t know what to do.
I’m using STS.
Thank you for your help!
This is how the folders are organized.

  1. Two issues :

    1. Change <context:component-scan base-package="com.spring" /> to
      <context:component-scan base-package="com.spring.*" />
    2. Change <beans:property name="prefix" value="/WEB-INF/views/" /> to
      <beans:property name="prefix" value="/WEB-INF/view/" /> (Since
      you folder is named view)

  2. change the web.xml servlet mapping to

    <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>spring</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>

    then in your contextConfigLocation file which is /WEB-INF/spring-servlet.xml configure like this:

    <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
        xmlns:context="http://www.springframework.org/schema/context"
        xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
        xsi:schemaLocation="
            http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans
            http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-3.0.xsd
            http://www.springframework.org/schema/context
            http://www.springframework.org/schema/context/spring-context-3.0.xsd">

        // to scan for annotation controllers, beans or configurations
        <context:component-scan base-package="com.spring" />

        <bean
            class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.InternalResourceViewResolver">
            <property name="prefix">
                <value>/WEB-INF/view/</value>
            </property>
            <property name="suffix">
                <value>.jsp</value>
            </property>
        </bean>

    </beans>

    You are not packaging and deploying your app correctly.

    I’d recommend that you package your app into a proper WAR file, put that in the /webapps or /WebContent folder, and start Tomcat.

    If the package is named spring-mvc-example.war or [any-name].war, your URL will be:

    http://localhost:8080/spring-mvc-example/
