What is the use of div tag in html?

I want to learn the use of div tag.
and also want to know what does this tag do in html.
tried myself several times but failed.

tried to use div tag but i failed .
also want to learn the use of div tag in html.
how to enable the div tag in html.

i tried to learn the use of div tag but failed also tried to use it in my html code but it was not working
